How to install JDBC with mysql and use it in Java?

Can any one discuss it me about how to have have use of of JDBC in a java application.
Please discuss it me in item about a softwares i need to implement as well as configurations which i will have to make. we am carrying JDK 1.6 commissioned upon my mechanism as well as do not have mysql. Please discuss it in item about a stairs which i need to follow.
